Violet "Peggy" Martin

Violet (Peggy) Grace Martin passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Cabell Health Center in Culloden, WV.

She was born in Liberty, WV on May 25, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Martin Sr., son, Donald “Eddie” Martin Jr. and parents Birt and Nettie Boggess.

Peggy was a member of the Hurricane Main Street Church of Christ where she attended faithfully as long as she was able. She was a graduate of Hurricane High School, Class of 1951 and Century College of Commerce in Huntington, WV. She worked for seven years at Ross Burks Optical in Huntington. She was instrumental in getting the first class for disabled children in Putnam County. She worked with the Spina Bifida Society and Putnam County for disabled children for many years. She was a member of the Collis P. Railroad Society. She loved growing flowers, traveling, collecting antiques and spending time with her classmates. She had many friends, especially her close friends, Bernadine Harrison and Carol Rowsey. Special cousin-in-law Anne Gibson whom she loved dearly. She grew especially close to her wonderful caregivers Lori Conley and Erica Upchurch. She spent the last 9 months at Cabell Health Center in Culloden where she was treated like family and developed a close bond with many of the staff.

Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home with Minister D. J. Curry officiating and burial will follow in Emma Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hurricane Main Street Church of Christ.
