Sarah Jane “Sally” Fletcher Holliday, of Hurricane, diedpeacefully on July 18, 2024. Born September 07, 1935, Sally was the daughter of the late John Caroll and Elizabeth Fletcher.
Sally was a graduate of Charleston High School and West Virginia University, where she met the love of her life, Jim Holliday. She founded the Putnam County Parks Board in 1969 to build the Hurricane City Park and served as president of Putnam County Parks & Recreation for 38 years, guiding the development of 13 community parks. She was a founding member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in the Valley, and she and Jim were the directors of Family Camp at Peterkin Camp & Conference Center for 50 years. She was a nature lover, an author, an artist, an involved member of the community, and above all else, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betsy Rea, brothers Caroll and Mike Fletcher, husband Jim Holliday, and grandson, Cole Johnson. Sally is survived by her children, John (Diana), Betsy (Scott), Andy, Anne, and Mike, grandchildren, Meghan, Cade (Lauren), Chase, Cody (Jessica), Claire (Joe), Jim (Olivia), Logan (Kate), Ali (Chris), Aggie, Anna, Andrew, Ben, and John Michael, and great-grandchildren, Hayes, Hank, Helen, Fletcher, and Alistair, and many extended family members and friends.
Sally will be remembered for her enthusiasm for life and for the genuine kindness and love that she gave to everyone. She is so loved and will be greatly missed.
A service will be held at St. Timothy's In-The-Valley Episcopal Church at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 with Rev. Andy Bird, Rev. Cheryl Winter, and Rev. Aaron Carr officiating. Internment of her ashes in the St. Timothy's 'Memorial Garden will follow the service.
