Polly Abbott Mynes, 89, of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on January 4, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Kermit and Hazel Abbott. Polly graduated from Hurricane High School in 1951 and pursued further education at The Century School of Business in Huntington. She dedicated many years of her professional life to working at Putnam County Bank.
In 1955, Polly married the love of her life, Buster Mynes, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his passing in 2000. Together, they were active members of their community, teaching the youth Sunday school class at Trace Fork Missionary Baptist Church before becoming long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
Polly had a zest for life and cherished the simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, often found with a good book in hand. She enjoyed listening to gospel music on TV, the refreshing taste of a cold can of Coca-Cola and looked forward to her every Thursday trip to New U Hair, where she enjoyed catching up with friends.
Polly is preceded in death by her husband, Buster; her parents, Kermit and Hazel; and her oldest daughter, Julie Casto. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Jody Rollins, and her husband, Mike. Polly was a loving grandmother to Laura Casto and her husband, Glenn Pill, of Melbourne, Australia; Joseph Rollins and his wife, Brandi, of Beckley, West Virginia; and Joshua Rollins and his wife, Jen, of Pataskala, Ohio. She was also the beloved great-grandmother to Isla Casto of Melbourne, Australia.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of CAMC General and Hubbard Hospice House for their compassionate care during Polly’s final days.
A memorial service to honor Polly’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane. Pastor Jerry Losh will officiate the service. The viewing will begin at noon, followed by the funeral service at 1 PM. Polly will be laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery in Hurricane.
