Mary Francis (Graham) Unik was born to Juanita Alberta (Barker) Graham and Oscar Ezra Graham in Amherstdale WV on November 11th, 1942. Mary marries her husband William (Bill) Unik, who preceded her in death in June 2006. Mary was a mother of three sons, Lesley Unik of Culloden WV, Michael Unik(deceased), and Rick Unik of Charleston WV, as well as her grandson, Mitchell Unik of Milton, WV. She was the second of four children, Slyvia J. (Clifton “Bud") Gardner both deceased, of Detroit, MI, Sharon S. (James) Chapman of Kewanna, IN, and Oscar S. (Faye) Graham Jr, of Bruceton, TN. Mary graduated from Man High School in 1960 and soon afterward joined the US Women’s Army Corp, until she was honorably discharged from Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, AZ as a Personal Specialist and Personal Clerk with a rank of E4 SP.
Mary and Bill were married July 25, 1963, and as a devoted mother and wife, she continued her education at New Kensington Commercial School earning her Social Worker license. She has devoted her life as an ambassador for the underprivileged and injured/disabled citizens. She served as a director of social services in the Charleston/Saint Albans area developing and promoting the Medicaid Waiver Program within the Agency leading to becoming Multicap Assistant Director of Public Relations. In 2000 Mary joined as a traumatic brain and spinal cord injury consultant before she was appointed to WV's Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Fund Board of Directors by the Honorable Governor Joe Manchin. She is finally at peace and resting next to her husband at Valley View Cemetery, in Hurricane, WV.
