Mark Edward Johnson, 72, of Hurricane West Virginia passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 following a brief, unexpected and rapidly progressive illness He was surrounded by family and golfing partners at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV.
Mark was born August 20, 1951 to Raymon andMarvine Johnson and lived almost his entire life on his beloved Turkey Creek Road. He was predeceased by his father and mother as well as brother Tim Johnson and son-in-law, Eric Tygrett. Mark is survived by his wife, Kathy (McCallister) Johnson; sister JudithBatterson; brother Mike Johnson; niece Heather Hill; great nieces Lacy Johnson and Hallie Johnson and great-great nephew Easton Fogerty; nephew Heath Johnson; step-father John Loving and step-sisters Val Melton and Patty Alexander and their families; daughter Angel Tygrett; son Jeremy Johnson; step-daughter Jennifer Freeman and her husband Peter Freeman; grandson Steven Jeffers; granddaughter Erica Tygrett; step-grandaughters Jorden and Sydney Freeman; great-grandaughters Avery Jeffers and Lexie Jeffers and step-great-grandson Matthew Freeman-Keller.
On May 31, 1991 Mark married Kathy, following a romance which began at the 20 year reunion of their Hurricane High School class of 1970. They have continued to treasure the close friendship of their classmates with monthly dinners and yearly picnics at their Turkey Creek home. Mark was retired from Bayer Cropscience (formerly Carbide) where he worked in operations, later becoming a captain and EMT in the plant fire station. He loved golfing with a close group of buddies in the Carbide retiree golf league, taking yearly golf trips which he enjoyed greatly. He and Kathy traveled frequently, visitingmuch of the US, including Hawaii and Alaska and, recently a long anticipated trip to England and Scotland.
Services will be held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, WV on Wednesday, November 8th with visitation at noon followed by funeral at 2:00 pm. He will be buried alongside his mother, father and brother at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
