LEWIS OTTO WILSON, 76, of Hurricane, West Virginia passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Sunday, November 5, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. Lewis was born August 3, 1947, in Spencer, WV to Otto and Geneva Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Smith); his daughters Melanie Mulcahy and Rebecca Anderson (Dan): his six grandchildren: Paul, John Lewis, Catherine, Clare, Caitlyn, and Abi; great grandchildren Chelsea and Teddy; brother Leroy Snodgrass (Loretta); sister Leona Campbell (Paul); sister-in-laws Sallie Brown, Norma Ferrell and Judy Ferrell; and extended family John Mulcahy, Jacklynn Mace and her children Braylynn and Brenley, and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. Lewis was predeceased by his father, mother, and his sister Donna Shank.
Lewis proudly served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. On July 26, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen. Following a career of 37 years in the telephone industry, he retired from Verizon in 2002.
Lewis was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, photography, and fishing. He volunteered with his local Trout Unlimited chapter and enjoyed trips supporting the Healing Waters veterans’ programs.
Lewis had a quick wit coupled with a spark of good-humored mischief. He was a loving husband, generous and supportive father, and doting grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 with visitation at 11:00AM followed by funeral services at 12:00PM at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane, WV. Burial at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery (Dunbar, WV) immediately following the service.
