Larry Lagana Obituary

Larry Lee Lagana
June 26, 1948 – June 7, 2025
Larry Lee Lagana was born on Saturday, June 26, 1948, to Hilda R. Fitchett and Tony Lagana in Washington, DC.  On June 7, 2025, he peacefully passed into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and a passion for aviation and family.

Larry was the devoted husband of Sandra J. (Luby), and a proud father to John Yeager of Belair, MD, Kristen Hughes (Tim) of San Antonio, FL, Jennifer Lagana-Sexton (Mike) of Ellicott City, MD, Tony Lagana (Stephanie) of Crozet, VA, Aimee Lagana (Ted) of Phoenix, AZ, Steph Lagana of Dayton, OH, Lisa Jones (T.J.) of Morgantown, WV, and Lauren Lagana (Jonathan) of Pittsburgh, PA. He took great pride in watching them grow into the amazing individuals they are today.
He was the adored grandfather of Alyssa, Hana, Aislinn, Gabby, Nathan, Aryana, Nolan, and Cooper, and the proud great-grandfather of Julia—each of whose lives he touched with kindness, small gifts, silliness, and wisdom. He found happiness in speaking with his grandchildren and watching them thrive as they carried on his legacy.

He is survived by his brother Gary Lagana, and the baby sister he adored, Lori Scott (Charlie), half-brothers Michael, Dale, Bruce and Darren and stepbrothers Lorn, Ray and Jay.

Larry's lifelong love for aviation took flight in his early childhood and led him to fulfill his dreams at General Aero Services, Inc., a Part 135 repair station at Baltimore Airpark and Carroll County Airport. His career in aviation spanned decades, and he was proud to contribute to the safety mission. Larry spent 18 years working for the Federal Aviation Administration in Charleston, WV, where he started as an aviation safety inspector before becoming the Flight Standards District Officer Manager. Throughout his career, Larry made lasting contributions to aviation safety, always striving to ensure that every flight and airplane was as safe as it could possibly be for the flying public.

Larry loved to travel and dreamed of adventure. Visiting Sicily was one of his biggest wishes, and as a passionate foodie, exploring the world was always part of his dream.

His family, friends, and colleagues will forever remember Larry for his unwavering work ethic, his quick wit, his generous spirit, and the love he had for those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support Putnam County WV. Emergency Rescue in Larry’s memory, reflecting his support of emergency medical personnel. A service for family and friends will be held graveside on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in Fort Valley, VA.
