John E Petty Jr.

John E. Petty, Jr. of Ashland, Kentucky departed this life to be with JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, Saturday, August 16, 2025.

John, born July 26, 1943 (82) was the eldest son of John and Marie Petty of United, West Virginia.

Surviving John are his daughter, Paula Marie Hicks, granddaughter, Hailee Marie Hicks and his great grandson, Dayton R. Hendrix. John’s loving sisters Edith “Tee” Marie Petty Boyd and Nancy C. Petty Melton and her husband William R. “Bill” Melton have been steadfast in their love and care over the past five years during his most happiest life events and most tragic losses.

 The Petty family lost their beloved brother, George A. “Buzzy” Petty on March 17, 2006.

The Petty Family Circle has never been broken through the loss of loved ones but remained dedicated to the teachings of their parents to always love and take care of one another forever.

John was a dedicated Christian who loved the LORD and was a member of the Church of God in Ashland, Kentucky. He volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels and at Bellefonte Hospital for several years. As a young adolescent, John delivered gazette newspapers to the residents of the coal camp in which he was raised. John graduated from East Bank High School in 1961 and immediately joined the Army to serve his country until he was honorably discharged in June of 1964.

John was a Master Mason and a member of the Chelyan Lodge Number 158 A.F. & A.M. He was awarded the Veteran’s Service Award and received his 50-year pen, May 5, 2025. John was very proud of his employment history with CSX Transportation. After thirty-nine (39) years of service, he retired in 2003 as Terminal Manager in Richmond, Virginia. After retirement he returned to live in Ashland, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be 11:00 on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Allen Funeral Home, 2837 Main Street, Hurricane, West Virginia 25526 with Kenneth Allison and Jeffery Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park in London, WV with Military Honors as well as Masonic Rites.
