John Millard Howard Bayliss Jr.

John M. H. Bayliss Jr., 85 of Hurricane WV passed away early morning Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at home from recent health issues.  He was born July 16, 1940 in St. Albans, WV to John M. H. Bayliss Senior and Clarice Smith Bayliss who preceded him in death. Also his sister Joy Cooksey and brother Jim Bayliss.

He attended Hurricane High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force.  He served his country for 4 years.  He was a Master Electrician and later became CEO of Bayliss and Ramey Electrical Contractors until his retirement.

John is survived by his loving wife Susan McCracken Bayliss, a son John M. H. Bayliss III of Hurricane, a sister Jill Whitworth from Gulf Port, FL, step-son Chuck mason of Cape Coral, FL, a step-daughter Susan Shrader of Nitro, 2 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren.

John was a 1990 World Record Deadlift holder of 551 lbs.  He was a APF World Master Champion in 1987, 1988 and 1990.  In 1992 he placed 1st as an APF National Master in the age group of 50-54 years old at 181 lbs.  John was a member of the Kanawha Valley Corvette Club.

Previously Susan and John would spend their winters in Orman Beach FL and their summers in Hurricane, WV.  John loved the hot weather and on any sunny, warm day you would see him sitting on his porch. He also loved spending time at Almost Havanna Cigar Lounge.

Funeral will be at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane, WV on Saturday March 14, 2026 at 2:00 P.M.  Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Jacob Steele and Rev.
