Jessie Arrietta Burdette passed away Friday afternoon, February 11, 2022, at the age of 78. She was born on January 20, 1944, and spent her life residing in Hurricane, West Virginia.
She went peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and many great friends, after a difficult ten-year battle with cancer. Jessie always said “You’re a Winner either Way”.
Jessie is preceded in death by her mother Gerald Cunningham, and her grandparent’s James and Arrietta Lovejoy, who adopted and raised her. Also preceded in death are siblings Shelia, Yvonne, Eddie, Jim, Irene, and Betty.
She is survived by her son Jim and wife Debbie, granddaughters Maura (Brad) and Morgan (Matt), grandsons Ryan and Cole. She has 7 great grandchildren and 1 arriving in March, one brother Jack of California, sister-in-law Karen of Oklahoma, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jessie retired from Putnam County School Board, after working for 32 years. She was a Christian for over 70 years, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where shewas active and involved with many activities in the service of the lord.
She was a member of the American Baptist Women, and served as President of the AHOU Circle for seven years, and sang in Choir for twenty years. Jessie traveled with the girl scouts, youth choirs, helping with many activities, and making sure others were attended to and fed. She loved every moment. Her favorite pass times were Cruising, playing cards with her friends and setting on the beach.
Funeral service will be 11:00 Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 til 11 prior to the service.
