Jay Wilkinson

Jay Wilkinson, (Jackie Lee Wilkinson II), 50, of Hurricane, WV, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on February 20, 2022.

He was born on December 27, 1971 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Jack Wilkinson and Lulu Lockard Wilkinson.  

Jay graduated from Hurricane High School in 1990.  He was employed by RCL Burco for 25+ years.

His family and friends will lovingly remember Jay as a fine man for his big heart and his involvement in his community.  He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.  He was a good listener.  He was an avid sports fan with a special love for football.  But his strongest love and greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, going to concerts and listening to music, hunting molly moochers, and playing Pokémon GO.  He loved coaching, not only his own kids, but also the many kids he met throughout the years. While we mourn that he is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing that he lived a beautiful life, made a difference in the life of so many others, and that he is reunited with his father, Jack.  We know that Jay will continue to watch over his children and he will remain in our hearts forever.

In addition to his father, Jay was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Hallie Lockard and Joe and Bonnie Wilkinson.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his sons, Chandler (Macey) and Jayden (Presley) Wilkinson, and his daughter, Jacey Wilkinson, all of Hurricane; one grandchild, Jackson and one on the way, Helena; sisters, Lisa Wilkinson Fitzwater; and Jackie Wilkinson Jacobs and her husband, Richard, also of Hurricane; special nieces, Alyssa Coleman, Morgan and Lindsey Jacobs, and Evelyn Grant; nephews, Michael and Brayden Adamsand Nathanial Grant; many cousins and extended families.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Valley Park Community Center in Hurricane, with a service immediately following, officiated by Rev. Jerry Losh. We invite you to bring your favorite photo with Jay to share with other friends and family.  In honor of Jay, please wear your shorts, ball cap, and favorite sports shirt (Ex. Hurricane, Poca, WVU, Dolphins, etc.).  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Jay be made to HBL at P. O.
