Hershel E Thomas

Hershel Thomas, born in 1938 in Huntington, WV to the late Emery and Idilla Dorothy Thomas, passed away peacefully June 24, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Hershel was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Rosalie Thomas, and his daughter, Teresa Thomasson. He is survived by his daughter, Kriste Tolbert (Alan), son Eric Thomas (Laura), and his grandchildren: Abbie, Allie, AJ, Collin, Erica, Sierra Brooke, Kyle, Jessica, and Madison. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Warren, Asher, and Jackson, whom he lovingly called "Popcorn." Sister-in-laws: Veda Freeman (Doral), Sue Bennett (Harold), and Sharon Cart (Bob).

A proud veteran, Hershel served in the U.S. Army, where he dedicated himself to his country. Throughout his life, he was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where he was an active participant in his community.

Hershel’s contributions to Hurricane extended beyond his personal relationships. He served on the Hurricane City Building Commission for over 10 years, helping shape the development of the town he loved.

In his personal life, Hershel had many passions. He was a master wood carver, creating intricate works of art with his hands. His knife-making skills were equally remarkable, and he took pride in crafting each piece with care and precision. An avid golfer, Hershel found joy in the game and in the time spent on the course with friends and family.

Hershel's warmth, kindness, and dedication to his family and community will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and service will live on in the generations he leaves behind.

A private Funeral service will be held at Allen Funeral Home and entombment will be in Valley View Memorial Park.
