Douglas Paul Hughes was born March 18, 1959, and entered the gates of Heaven on July 3, 2020 following a lengthy battle with chronic illness. Douglas was the eldest son of Robert Allen and the late Sarah Sue (Quinn) Hughes of Hurricane, WV.
Surviving fiancée, dear friend, and loving caregiver Lilly Agee held a special place in Douglas’ heart and life. Douglas has one daughter, Shannon Kathleen (Hughes) Moore and her husband Brandon, who mourn his loss.
Shannon was Douglas’ pride and joy; his “Baby Girl.”
His surviving siblings left to cherish his memory are Wayne Hughes and his wife Lisa; Pamela Hughes; Denise Chapman and her husband Rodney. Douglas is also survived by his nieces Sarah Hughes, Nicci (Hughes) Hawkins and husband Rob, Brittany (Hughes) Hager and husband Caleb, Elizabeth Chapman, and Emma Chapman; and nephews Thomas Neal and Fiancée Ashley Barber and Christian Chapman; and a host of other family whom he loved very much. Douglas had many friends whom he loved, but his closest friend and brother in Christ, Mike Elliott, was a very special part of his life for many years. Douglas friend Linda King also held a special place in his heart as an "adopted daughter".
The Hughes Family extends their sincere gratitude to the team of physicians, nurses, CNAs, and other medical professionals who worked diligently to see to his needs throughout his extended illness and provide support to the family in his end-of-life care.
The Celebration of Life service to honor Douglas’ memory will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 6 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home on Main Street in Hurricane, WV.
