Dolores Jean Holstein

Dolores Jean Holstein, 88, was born on February 15th, 1935. She was adamant believer in divine healing and passed away peacefully and pain free without medication on November 8th, 2023 after a short illness in the home built for her by her late son, Timothy, and that she recently shared with her daughter and caregiver, Teresa, in St. Albans, WV.

She was preceded in death by her son: Timothy Mark Eskins; grandsons: Christopher Eskins and Dustin Fitzgerald; parents: James and Virginia Holstein; siblings: Mary Keffer, Freda Brogan, Carl Holstein, Lorraine Roberts, Donald Holstein, Bill Holstein, Ethel Gravely, Evelyn Fowlkes-Edens, James Darrell Holstein, Della Holstein and twin boys that died at birth.

She is survived by son: James H. Eskins, Jr.(Kathy); daughters: Teresa G. Eskins and Patricia R. Eskins; grandchildren: Angela Miller (Bryan), James H. Eskins III, Josephine Collins (Shawn), Jessica Nelson, Richard Toler (Denise), Lonnie Paul Nelson (Pauline), Isaac Eskins (Rachel), Lisa Parsons (Richard) and Patrick Nelson (Emily); 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; Many nieces and nephews.

Dolores was born in a little two bedroom home in Ashford, WV in a little community called “Bull Creek”. She was the fourth of thirteen children born to her parents. She published a book about her life growing up in the Appalachian mountains titled “A Diamond in the Rough” in 2010. She spent the majority of her adult life as a holiness preacher and was a Pastor at several churches throughout her lifetime. She traveled and preached in many different country churches in West Virginia, Florida and the surrounding states doing evangelical work as well as Haiti and the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada where she ministered along side many of the Native American Pastors and Evangelists. She wrote several songs during her life that have since been posted on YouTube. Among them was the album "Jesus is Heaven to Me".

Later in life she worked as a Home Healthcare Assistant in both West Virginia and Florida. She had so many funny and heartfelt stories to tell about those of whom she built bonds while caring for them during the last years of their lives. She retired in 2007 and was the caregiver for her disabled son until his death in 2019.

She always dreaded the cold dark days of winter and rallied on a beautiful sunny day. It is so ‘her’ to leave us before the winter days have arrived and during the sunny days of autumn. After several years of being confined to a wheelchair, this winter will find her bathing in the sunlight of God’s love and running through the wild flowers in heaven picking blackberries and paw paw’s. She loved animals and had a bird sanctuary on on back porch. She was loved and honored by many and will be missed immensely. Most of her friends have gone on before her and we find joy in knowing that she is reunited with them, talking, laughing and sharing the goodness of God while bathing in the light of His Glory.

She requested her funeral arrangements to be handled by her family; therefore, her wake will be held in the home of her daughter, Patricia, on the evening of November 9th and her service will be held at 1pm on November 10th. She will buried next to her son's home in the Eskins' Cemetary in Hurricane WV.
