Derrick McMillion

Derrick McMillion, 28 of Mount Hope, West Virginia passed away on March 12, 2019.

Derrick was born May 23, 1990 in Charleston, West Virginia.  He was the son of Frank and Kim McMillion.

He is also survived by his wife, Natasha Shirkey McMillion and his beloved children, Jonathan Tyler and Charlee Rae; brother and best friend Tyler McMillion, and like a brother Brandon Ward;   grandparents Dasil and Christena Vaught, Ross and Margaret Painter; in-laws Tony and Sarah Shirkey.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Genevieve McMillion.

Derrick attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated in 2008.  He pursued a career in coal mining where he found a wonderful extended work family.  He was a Safety Specialist for Blackhawk Mining.  He had a strong bond with Joey, Mark and his old bolt partner, Justin.  Derrick enjoyed racing ATV's with his brother and then moved onto dirt track racing. But most of all he enjoyed his family.  He wife and children were his whole world. 

Derrick had so many lifelong friends through his racing and so many wonderful memories were made.

The visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Robert Barley Youth Center, Maple Fork Baptist Church, Mount Hope, WV noon to 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. with Skee Barley officiating.  Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Brandon, Aaron, Russell, Rogie, Kenny, Joey and Cody
