Revelation 21:4: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Charles William Halstead Jr., known to many as Bill or Billy, passed away on April 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He entered into eternal rest in the care of his Lord and Savior. Mr. Halstead was a 1974 graduate of St. Albans High School and was employed at various chemical plants prior to his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane and sang in the choir until his illness prevented his attendance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pauline Halstead; his brother, Monty Halstead; and his parents-in-law, Hillard and Juanita McCallister.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lynn McCallister Halstead; his two sons, Chad and Jeremy; his brother, Michael Halstead; his five grandsons, Peyton, Luke, Parker, Max, and Tyler; and numerous relatives and friends.
Among Mr. Halstead’s passions was establishing a program at Recovery Point in Huntington, West Virginia, known as SOD (Serving Others Dailey). Through this effort, he taught men to cultivate a garden; however, the mission extended beyond gardening, as he also shared Bible lessons that were new to many participants. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to the program until his health no longer allowed him to continue.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Allen Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Memorial Park in Milton, West Virginia. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home, and also for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
