Carol J (Sovine) Rowsey

Carol Joyce Sovine Rowsey 91, of Hurricane completed her life of service to her family, her God, her church and her community on Feb. 19, 2025 following an injury due to a fall. 

She was born April 14, 1933 to Howard T. Sovine and Thelma Sovine McElroy in Hurricane. Following her fathers death when she was 8 years old she began helping her mother care for her four younger siblings and continued taking care of her family members for the next 82 years until the passing of her daughter Jan Rowsey and her younger sister Lois White just a few short weeks ago.

Carol was well known for her bread and pie baking and was always baking them for family and friends whenever someone else was grieving, facing a crisis or in need. She often served as a 2nd mother or grandmother to many of her children’s friends over the years. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Rowsey, her daughter Jan, her sisters Marion Howell, Lois White, brothers, Denny Wise, Riley Sovine, Doug Wise and Tim Wise. 

She is survived by her daughter LaDonna Rowsey of Hurricane, her son Howard Rowsey(Sharon) of Parkersburg, granddaughter Courtney Dyer (Shawn) of Hurricane and four great grandsons Greyson, Guy, Knox and Wesley

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:00 till 2:00 prior to the service.
