Bradley David Atkins

Bradley David Atkins, 25, died at home on December 26, 2018.

Born to David and Karen Atkins of Hurricane on a sunny June day in 1993, Bradley grew up on a green hillside he loved and called home.

As a boy, Bradley was a football and baseball player, he ran wild at Camp Hi Tor in the summers, and he enjoyed spending every free minute with his childhood friends or bugging his sister, better known as “Sissy.” Bradley had an extraordinary bond with his paw-paw R.V. “Vince” Atkins of Hurricane. The two were known to cut grass, work odd jobs, and tinker all hours of the day. His influence on Bradley’s life was evident through his love of the outdoors and heavy machinery. 

Bradley attended Hurricane Middle School and Hurricane High School as a teen and went on to earn his high school equivalency degree and CDL license to drive trucks, which he found freeing and exhilarating. He was previously employed by Mid South Trucking.

A man who knew no stranger, Bradley was quick to make friends and had the gift of many special relationships. He loved mountains, live music, four-wheeling, Fayetteville, and traveling the open road. Bradley could entertain you for hours with his conversation and company and could always offer a laugh and a smile.

Bradley also adored and loved his longtime partner and best friend, Katelyn Farmer of Hurricane, with whom he shared a home in Teays Valley.

Bradley’s mom, Karen, his most ardent supporter, caretaker, and advocate, will most miss his infectious smile and warm hugs. His father, David, will miss taking bike rides on their Harleys together and special time spent as father and son. His sister, Karla, will miss his friendship and easy conversation the most. As one of his childhood friends said, Bradley was the light in the room, in any room he was ever in.

Bradley is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Vince and Mary Atkins of Hurricane and maternal grandparents Harold and Othel Epling of Hurricane.

He is remembered by his parents David and Karen Atkins of Hurricane, partner Katelyn Farmer of Hurricane, sister Karla Atkins Hilliard and husband Doug Hilliard of Martinsburg, nieces Addy and Lily Hilliard, aunt and uncle Bob and Bonnie Holstein of Hurricane, aunt Debbie Russell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, cousins Billy Holstein, Tammy Holstein, Ashley Williamson, and Sarah Russell, and countless friends who Bradley considered family.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on 1:00 on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at First State Bank 3754 Teays Valley Road Hurricane, WV.
