Rev. Sidney Eugene Warner Sr.

Sidney Eugene Warner Sr., ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, 81 of Hurricane, made the transition to his heavenly home on September 19, 2017, when his battle with Alzheimer finally ended. 

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Will and Maggie Stevens (who raised Sidney), mother Thelma Diamond and Orville Stevens, a very special cousin.

Sidney is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Phyllis Warner, sons Sid Warner Jr (Penny) of Hurricane, John Warner (Alandra) of Mooresville, North Carolina and daughter Jeanne Warner Leadman (Chuck) of Hurricane. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Trey, Kyle, Jeremey, Joseph, Justin, John, Kelsey; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Jax, Ella, Henry; brothers, John Wanner (Judy), Dale, Alan; sisters, Sharon, Nancy, Helen, and Carol. Sidney is also survived by aunts, Shirley Stevens, Phyllis Knapp, and Maxine Hinman. Sidney so loved his inlaw family which consisted of three brothers-in-law,  three sisters-in-law their spouses and children.

Sidney loved his family very much. He was a loving husband, wonderful father and “super poppy”.  He loved to deer and turkey hunt with his grandchildren.  Sid traveled the world during his four year stint in the navy.  He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School and the seminary at Nazarene Bible college.  He was a member of Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene.  Sidney worked at the US Postal Service and retired with 38 years of service.  Upon retirement, he worked for the city of Hurricane for seven years.

The Warner family appreciates all those who visited Sidney during this terrible disease.  We want to extend a special thank you to hospice team, Susan, April, Susie, Melissa, Tiffany and Tony, all of whom took such wonderful care of Sidney.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene, 2325 US Rt.60, Hurricane, WV.  A funeral celebration of his life will be on Friday, September 22 at 1:00 pm at the church with Rev. Phil Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park.
