Joseph "John" Carpenter Obituary

Joseph H. (John) Carpenter, 81, passed away at home on June 13, 2018, after a long illness.  He was surrounded by his four children and other family.

He was born on August 18, 1936, to his parents, James Shelton and Zella Marie Carpenter.  John married Amy Arbutis Johnson on June 3, 1960.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Amy Carpenter; his parents, James and Zella Carpenter; granddaughter, Sara Marie Eggleton; great-granddaughter, Savannah Casto; siblings, Betty Russell, Alice Carpenter and Savina Carpenter. 

His is survived by his four children; Marsha Armstead (Tom), Nancy Eggleton (Melvin), John Carpenter (Cindy Lacy) and Crystal Casto (Shawn); grandchildren, Tara and Shannon Eggleton, Brandon Carpenter (Lisa Wade), Kimberly Meadows (Jeremy), Megan Carpenter, Marshall Dawson and Faith, Tyler and Carly Casto; 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Robert Carpenter (Margaret), Silvon Carpenter (Deloris), Martha Smith (J.B.), Becky Ruppel (Don), William Carpenter, Mary Edwards (Tony), Timothy Carpenter (Kelly).  Along with a host of family and friends and special friends, Dawn Jordan and Therese Fannin for being part of “the family.”

John proudly served as a paratrooper in the 101.  He was involved in many activities in the community.  He was one of the founders of the Special Lambs Project in WV 4H.  He spent many hours of his time helping with farming and agricultural programs for the state and county.  John was dedicated and committed to helping with and giving back to his community at every opportunity he had.  He retired from Union Carbide as chemical operator.  After his retirement, John focused on his farm and sawmill.

John was the best at everything he did, husband, father, friend and neighbor.  The many acts of love throughout his 81 years can not be expressed by these few words.  He will be greatly missed by all.

Special thanks to Aunt Mary and Uncle Tony for their constant support and care during the loss of our dear mommy and daddy.  We love you so much.

Funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Allen Funeral Home, 2837 Main Street, with Elders Tony Edwards and William Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt.
