John Edward “J.E.” Smith ,
89, of Hurricane WV went to be with the Lord in his heavenly home on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019.
Born in Belle, WV, on September 1st, 1930, to the late Charles & Myrtle White Smith.
He was a graduate of Hurricane High School. He retired from Union Carbide as an Electrical Drafting Engineer. He founded Hurricane Heating & Supplies then later John E. Smith & Sons Heating & Cooling. He was active
in the early years at the Hurricane Fire Department. John was instrumental in the construction & completion of Hurricane High Schools Football Field. After retirement he did contract work for several other businesses in the local area.
A longtime member of Forest Burdette United Methodist Church he served on many committees & was a member of the choir for 35 years.
He was proceeded in death by his three caring sons Richard Lewis “Snuffy”, Victor David & Jeffery Edward “Bodine” Smith, all of Hurricane. Brother Charles “Smitty” Smith of North Carolina.
He was an amazing husband and is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Laura Jo Neely Smith.
He is survived by his brothers David (Connie), Robert Smith & sister-in-law Gaye Smith.
He was also a wonderful papaw who leaves the follow grandchildren to cherish his memories; Carrie Beth, Mary Katherine, Brandon Edward, Kimberly Dawn & Hunter Louis.
