James "Jim" F Martin

James “Jim” Frederick Martin, 81 of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.   He was born in Logan, WV in 1936 to the late Henry and Orpha Martin.  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.  Jim was a retired electrician and coal miner in Logan County.   Jim grew up, worked and raised his family in Logan, WV.  He moved to Putnam County (Hurricane, WV) in 1999 and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hurricane.

The most important things in the world to Jim was his love for God and his family.  He is survived by his beautiful wife of 59 years, Betty Martin; his three devoted sons Keith (Cheryl) Martin, Brian (Sue) Martin, and Patrick (Rhonda) Martin; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Eric) Bailey, Kelsey Martin, Branson Martin, Ian Martin, and Ella Martin; two great-grandchildren, Palmer and Paisley Bailey; one brother, Johnny (Reva) Martin; and three sisters, June (Joe) Hensley, Gail (Pat) Porter and Debbie (Willis) Chaffin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bill and Dana Martin. 

Jim was a man who never met a stranger and was happy to spend time with anyone he met.  He loved to talk with everyone and his smile and laughter were contagious.  He was a devoted husband and father and his joy in life was spending time with his family.  Jim loved to stay busy working in his yard and if you ever asked for help with anything he was always “happy to do it”.  He had a heart of gold and his family and friends loved him immensely. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 19. 2017 from 12 til 2 and Funeral services will be at 2:00 at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane WV. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery.
