James Michael Adkins (aka BellyRubber)
Mike’s Story: His journey began on April 12, 1955 in Sutton, WV, son of Bill and Rotha Adkins. He attended school in Nicholas County where he played baseball. His first job at age 5 was at Adkins Trucking with his father, Bill Adkins. Mike and his brother, Allen enjoyed motorcycles and being boys with big toys. As children they loved strip mining sandboxes until their debut on the job with their dad.
Mike met the love of his life, Jo Ann in 1979 and the two married in July, 1982. Mike couldn’t wait to have a family. The couple have two children Tiffani and Ryan, he coached their softball and baseball teams at HBL. He and his family enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Holden Beach, and Snowshoe Mountain. Mike’s greatest joys in life were his family and his 3 grandchildren: Julija, Dominic and Koda Bear.
The things he loved were: playing baseball, Corvettes, his work family at the coal mines, working on trucks, joking and having fun, blackberry cobbler, cleaning the entire garage out while singing Donna Summers, and train trips with his grandchildren.
