Georgia Ruth Johnson Stanley, 97, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2018. Born on November 4, 1920 in Logan WV, Georgia was one of 7 children of G.W. and Matilda Cline Johnson. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Charles E. Stanley.
Georgia graduated from Logan High School in 1938 and worked as Chief Operator at C&P Telephone Company in Logan. During that time, she took great delight in being a second mom to her nieces and nephews and enjoyed frequent trips to Myrtle Beach with her girlfriends. In 1956, she and Charles married and began building together the life and family of her dreams. Georgia epitomized the Proverbs 31 woman: she dedicated herself to her husband and three girls, serving throughout their years in Logan as a Sunday School teacher, PTA member, Girl Scout troop leader. She was a caregiver to her mother, father, and sister Maxine in their final years. Georgia also watched over her widowed and elderly neighbors, accompanying them to doctor appointments, grocery store trips, whatever was needed.
In 1987, Georgia and Charles left Logan and retired to Hurricane where they relished their time spent making new lifelong friends and becoming doting grandparents.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, her pride and joy: Sara Lynn (David) Radcliff of Charleston, Mary Beth (Mark) Robinson of Hurricane and Lisa Anne Hess of Houston, TX. Forever remembering their Mamaw are her beloved grandchildren: Brittany Radcliff (Eric) Kinder of Scott Depot, Zachary (Natalie) Robinson and Jacob Robinson of Miami, Fl., Sam Robinson of Little Rock, AR; Jonathan Radcliff of Charleston, Madison and Ryan Hess of Houston, TX. Great-grandchildren Hannah and Nolan Kinder of Scott Depot filled her final years with much light and laughter.
Friends and family will gather on Monday, April 16 from 11 to 1 at Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane WV, immediately followed by funeral services. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W. Charleston WV 25387-2536
