September 7, 1929 ~ October 3, 2018 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Audrey Murphy Obituary

Audrey Catherine Murphy, 89, of Hurricane went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2018 after a short illness.  Audrey was born September 7, 1929 in Quinwood, WV to the late Metric Thomas Tinsley and Lottie Bess Tinsley.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Ray Harding Murphy, her eldest son Kenneth Ray and an infant son Michael Wayne Murphy and granddaughter Sara Michelle Murphy.

Audrey worked most of her career in food service and was known for her delicious chicken and dumplings, fresh green beans and new potatoes, potato soup, lemon cake and German chocolate cupcakes.  She loved to cook and her way to minister to others was through the gift of food. She had a giving heart and loved to give her time and energy to anyone in need.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh.  She was a woman of faith, a loyal friend and had an uncanny strength to overcome hardship and to focus on the positives of life.

She was the proud mother of her two surviving children Bill Wayne and his wife Mary Murphy of Corpus Christi, TX and daughter Cathy and her husband Dale Burns of Huntington, WV.  She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Memaw.  She thought her grandchildren could hang the moon.  Grandchildren are Daniel Ray Murphy and his partner Amanda Barren of Teays Valley, WV, Matthew Wayne Murphy of Rockport, TX, Katie Lauren Burns of Lexington, KY, Kelsie Catherine Burns and her boyfriend Rob Reed of El Paso, TX, and great granddaughter Ocean Kyra Williams (Sara’s daughter) of Corpus Christi, TX.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane, former member of Fidelity Sunday School Class and a graduate of Crichton High School, Greenbrier County. Her hobbies included embroidering, baking, and in her earlier years she loved to bowl.

Additional survivors include her siblings Marie Bettarel of Burbank, CA, Freda Brewer of Shrewsbury, WV and Matt Tinsley of Dickson, TN and many nieces and nephews. Her deceased siblings include Beulah Epperson, Thomas Tinsley and Bunny Tinsley.

Visitation will be at Allen’s Funeral Home, Hurricane, WV at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 and funeral at 11:00 am.  A special thank you to the wonderful staff of Paramount Assisted Living (formally Midland Meadows), of Ona, WV for taking such good care of Audrey the past two years and for providing an environment for her wit and sense of humor to shine.
